Older comments about Manu Ginobili by the press and others.

ESPN basketball columnist, Ric Bucher on his choice for the NBA's Sixth Man Award:

" Who Should Win: Manu Ginobili, Spurs. His 13 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals don't begin to describe what he does, which is essentially take the game by the neck and bend it to his will. Ginobili comes off the bench only because Hedo Turkoglu doesn't provide the same instant spark. Manu is the primary back-up both at point and at off-guard, giving Popovich more flexibility if Tony Parker has a slow start."

Sports Illustrated senior writer, Jack McCallum on his choice for the NBA's Sixth Man Award:

" . . my choice is MANU GINOBILI OF SAN ANTONIO. Ginobili will allow, reluctantly, that he has grown into his role as sixth man, though he would rather start, which he did through much of the early season. But coach Gregg Popovich has concluded, correctly, that Ginobli's ability to change a game in so many different ways makes him most valuable as an all-purpose sixth piece. Lots of guys throw no-look passes, but Ginobli is the only guy to both consistently make no-look shots (a la Dallas's Steve Nash) and come up with no-look steals. Look for Mighty Manu's minutes to soar in the postseason, but he's a legit sixth man for the regular season."

Sports Illustrated writer, Marty Burns:

" Don't cry for Manu, Argentina. Your native son, Emanuel Ginobili, might not be a starter on the Spurs anymore. But he is this year's top Sixth Man.
No player has made a bigger impact off the bench than Ginobili. His energy, creativity and lightning-fast hands have brought an added dimension to the Spurs. Sure, he occasionally throw the ball into the 10th row, but it's no coincidence San Antonio's second-half surge began only after he agreed to a reserve role."
